Caroling for a Cause 2011

Last December 16, Friday, me and a bunch of close friends caroled for the first time together. But with a twist, because the money did not go to our pockets.

It was a thought out of nowhere. I can’t even remember the moment I said it to Paula and Roy. Anyway, I didn’t expect they would spread the news themselves and gathered other friends that I didn’t expect (again) to come.

But the day before, some of us planned our set list first (haha, glee). We ended up having two sets in case we carol in a neighborhood. We searched for the songs of Set A for almost 4 hours, while Set B only took an hour, because almost all of them were from ABS-CBN Christmas station IDs.

Spoiler: It was Set B that earned us millions.

The next day, we all met up at McDonald’s where our good friend Roy treated us dinner. Our energy level all soared up.

We started caroling at around 7pm.

  1. First victim: a sari-sari store. Earned: 5 pesos. Why 5 pesos: It looked like we woke the lady up pretty badly.
  2. Second victim: a sort of eatery. Earned: 100 pesos only. Why 100 pesos: We sang Set B.
  3. Some victim: Bakery. Earned: 10 pesos. Why 10 pesos: We sang Set A.
  4. Some victim: House behind a pharmacy. Earned: 120 freaking pesos. Why 120 pesos: We sang Set B.

Set B worked wonders.

After the house-to-house and store-to-store caroling, we went to Roy’s house to rest. We counted and we earned more or less 500 pesos. Then my mother called and I proposed we sing to her. And we did, which was a very unusual form of caroling, and she granted us some big amount. My wallet paid for it temporarily </3. Then we caroled to Roy’s mom and she gave some big amount too.

That night, after more or less 3 hours, we earned 965 pesos.

Me and three of the carolers slept at Roy’s place that night. It was my first time to sleep over and I was surprised mom permitted me. I carefully crafted my words, alright. It was very hard.

In the morning, we went to the grocery and bought canned goods and noodles for our beneficiaries. Our money reached 20 bags, 2 cans and 2 noodles each. I know it’s very little, but they’re from the heart. :D

We met up again last Monday to give it to the beggars around our church here in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu. There was some commotion because we ran out of bags.

Anyhow, all in all it was a success and I am very thankful to God for the people who made it possible. ‘Til next year, maybe? :)
